Kim Davis the Kentucky Clerk who refuses to issue gay marriage licenses announced she has filed for divorce from her husband Thomas Mcintyre.She announced she has finalized plans to marry Duck Dynasty's patriarch and star Phil Robertson "The Duck Commander"
In a press conference Thursday Davis explained that Robertson 'wrote and called' her while she was incarcerated in federal custody last week for contempt of court charges.
"Phil has been so kind and supportive",Davis told reporters,"he sent me Bible verses every day and put money on my jail account so I could buy Mountain Dew and pork rinds."
Robertson reportedly called Davis on her second night of incarceration to offer support.They have been talking ever since.
“I had an amazing visit with Kim. She exudes gentleness and is at peace. Her spirits remain high,” Robertson said. “She was brought to tears when I told her I loved her and that God wanted her to cleave unto me.My whole family is praying for her.”
Davis’ detention has sparked fierce debate over whether public officials should be granted religious accommodations when it comes to same-sex nuptials.
Robertson says he has no plans to divorce his wife of 50 years,Kay Robertson.He has instead asked Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear for a special exemption for his new "spiritual union."
Kay,an author of children's books,spoke to FOX411 about her new book called “D is for Duck Calls” and her earlier marriage struggles.
"I forgave Phil for his drinking and abuse and infidelity."Kay told Fox News."The worst advice I ever got was when they told me to leave him.You have to fight for your marriage.Kim [Davis] is a lovely woman full of the spirit and will make a wonderful sister wife."
The Governor's Office could not be reached for comment.
